The first sha’bi houses were built in the early years of the UAE federation as “a gift to the nation” from the late sheikh zayed. originally prized for their functionality and compatibility with the local bedouin customs, they have played an influential role in the uae’s unfolding social, cultural, and architectural story over the last half-century, and helped shape the character of many streets and neighborhoods across the country.
