Notebook Square
The design of this notebook represents subtle aspects of the architecture. In each Abrahamic religion, water plays a central role in purifying the believer as they come before God. The cuts in the cardboard reflect the architecture surrounding these cleansing areas.
Christian Baptismal
The ritual of Christian baptism is expressed in the Church through a private, sunken space for the faithful. Within this space, there are perforations in the ceiling where light filters through, creating an atmosphere of solemnity and focusing the believer on the light above as they rise from the water. The design on this notebook represents those perforations and the light that shines through them.
Islamic Ablution
The architecture of the Mosque offers an elegant partition of the ablution area. Islamic practice dictates that believers must perform ritual ablutions to cleanse themselves before prayer. This partition represents the modesty and respect central to the Muslim faith. The notebook design represents the partition meant to give privacy to the faithful.
Jewish Baptismal
The purification ritual of Mikvah requires full-body immersion in natural water and the Synagogue provides a Mikvah for each gender facing Jerusalem. The Mikva must be filled naturally and therefore a cut-out in the ceiling has been made to allow rain to fall into and fill the pool. The belief that God is the provider of all that is needed for the believer is reflected in this practice. The design on this notebook represents the falling water into the space to fill the pool.
