In Christianity, the number one represents the preeminence of Jesus, the importance of worshipping God alone, and the unity of the church. Jesus is considered the firstborn of all creation, giving him the ultimate authority. In the gospel of Mark, Jesus is recorded as stating the most important command is to recognize that the Lord is one and to love Him with all of your being. The apostle Paul talks about the church as “one body” and that its members are inseparable.

The number three in Christianity shows up in many stories during Jesus’ life as well as his instructions, representing divine fulfillment. Most significantly, it is reference to the Triune nature of God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus rises from the dead on the third day, Peter denies Jesus three times and is later restored three times, and Jesus is brought three gifts when he is born. The number ten is especially associated with Jesus’ teachings. He taught using parables, many of which included stories of
ten. He even healed ten lepers, which continues into a story of gratitude and how few recognized Jesus’ authority, even as he preformed miracles.
